Why I, as a British Muslim woman, want the burkha banned from our streets

My message to those Muslims who want to live in a Talibanised society, and turn their face against Britain, is this: ‘If you don’t like living here and don’t want to integrate, then what the hell are you doing here? Why don’t you just go and live in an Islamic country?’

Explainer: Why do Muslim women wear a burka, niqab or hijab?

It has been called a security risk and a “flag of fundamentalism”, there have been calls to ban it and it has been associated with terrorism.

So what exactly is the burka? And why do some Muslim women wear it?

Hiding behind the burqa

To this day in Islamic court’s talaq is still used.

It is a controversial practice called the talaq or “triple- talaq.”

Anytime a wife is not menstruating, a husband may divorce her by saying, “I divorce you, I divorce you, I divorce you,” effectively throwing her out on the street.

Qur’an 066.005

YUSUFALI: It may be, if he divorced you (all), that Allah will give him in exchange consorts better than you,- who submit (their wills), who believe, who are devout, who turn to Allah in repentance, who worship (in humility), who travel (for Faith) and fast,- previously married or virgins.

PICKTHAL: It may happen that his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your stead wives better than you, submissive (to Allah), believing, pious, penitent, devout, inclined to fasting, widows and maids.

SHAKIR: Maybe, his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your place wives better than you, submissive, faithful, obedient, penitent, adorers, fasters, widows and virgins.

Hiding behind the burqa

Then I saw the (Hell) Fire, and I have never before, seen such a horrible sight as that, and I saw that the majority of its dwellers were women.” The people asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! What is the reason for that?” He replied, “Because of their ungratefulness.” It was said. “Do they disbelieve in Allah (are they ungrateful to Allah)?” He replied, “They are not thankful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the favours done to them. Even if you do good to one of them all your life, when she seems some harshness from you, she will say, “I have never seen any good from you.”

The truth about women under Islam creates much controversy.

Islamic women claim they are honoured, Islamic men claim the same. But all evidence points to the contrary of women being placed at high regard.

From a young age Muslim men & women are taught that women are of lesser quality. They are there to produce (breed) future soldiers of Islam. To serve the man, fulfil sexual demands on command & to not have differing opinions. That it is women that commit sin. They must obey every command of any male family member.

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 81 – Narrated ‘Uqba: The Prophet said

“The stipulations most entitled to be abided by are those with which you are given the right to enjoy the (women’s) private parts (i.e. the stipulations of the marriage contract).”

Volume 3, Book 48, Number 826 – Narrated Abu Said Al – Khudri: The Prophet said

“Isn’t the witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?” The women said, “Yes.” He said, “This is because of the deficiency of a woman’s mind.”

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 126 – Narrated Imran: The Prophet said

“I looked at Paradise and saw that the majority of its residents were the poor; and I looked at the (Hell) Fire and saw that the majority of its residents were women.”

There is no marriage equality throughout Islam. A woman’s testimony is half of a man. A woman’s worth is half of a man.

Muhammad instructs that Muslim men are permitted to yell, temporarily abandon & strike their wives if they are disobedient. But they are not allowed to strike the face, draw blood or bruise. Quiet often though restraint is clearly lost.
